Shout PR Fashion Blogger Event

Last night Chelsea, Jasmine, and I attended the ShoutPR OC Fashion Blogger event at the OC Mix Mart in Costa Mesa and a wonderful time was had by all. We ate, we drank, we DIY-ed, and we scored some seriously fab swag! (I walked away with several new looks courtesy of Lulu's and Lost...all thanks to Chelsea and Jasmine's copious amounts of raffle tickets.) I certainly felt like a newb amongst the pro-bloggers in attendance, but I hands down won the award for most creative DIY-er when I dip-dyed my collar in red wine for a "heathered" look. (JK...my sister spilled wine everywhere and we just rolled with it.) Somehow I ended up channeling Boy George- and I really kinda like it. I'm 80's gay icon, mixed with space cadet with a dash of jungle fever. I'd say all those mixed together makes for a pretty solid ensemble...wouldn't you? Thank you so much to ShoutPR for such a fabulous event! We had so much fun.

Getty-ing

Yesterday boyfriend and I went to the Getty Center in LA to see the Herb Ritts: LA Style exhibition. It was equal parts 90's supermodels and oiled up naked men...so basically it just rocked. We spent only a portion of the time taking in the art, and the rest of the time drinking beer and lying in the grass. Museums that serve beer are the best kind. I wore my tiniest vintage denim cutoffs (people were not amused) and a paper thin vintage scarf top that is apparently from Arizona. I threw on a simple black blazer, some cowboy boots, an LA Dodgers cap, and some crazy fringed earrings, just for good measure. (I know that as an Orange County girl people will wonder why I am not wearing an Angel's cap. And it's because the Angel's don't have a chic logo...FYI.) I was so excited to read on IFB this week that there are readers out there on the interwebz who are still looking for those forward thinking, quirky bloggers with an innately individual sense of style; say rather than the up-to-the-minute, trendy blogger/model, with a giant bank account to boot, which seems to be the status quo as of late in the blogosphere. I am just happy that I can keep dressing in my crazy ten-dollah get-up's from the thrift store and there are people out there who might actually call it "fashionable" ;)

Outfit Post | Heart Boobs, Oh yes.

Last night, I spent the evening sipping on one too many koppaberg’s & stuffing my face with hog roast (nom); at a very lovely ladies wedding reception. I haven’t been to a wedding for absolutely ages, so thought it would be silly not to invest in a new dress for the occasion! & I also thought; why not cease the opportunity to do my first outfit post for y’all?! ;) I don’t know why, but I was a little bit nervous of posting an OOTD kinda post; just in case you guys were sat there thinking, ew, that girl looks vile...but I decided to do it anyway! Ha.

FACE: Collection 2000 lasting perfection concealer: Fair. bare minerals SPF15 foundation: medium beige. Bare Minerals all over face color: warmth. Nars Blush: Desire. Bare Minerals Illuminating mineral veil. Body Shop shimmer cubes. Collection 2000 fast stroke Eyeliner. Collection 2000 Glam Crystals. Topshop lipstick: Infrared.
As you may have read in one of my previous posts, I’m no longer a raving fan of topshop, & their hugely overpriced garments. However, this dress had to be an exception. I mean, seriously, it’s ridiculously cute isn’t it? Hearts on your boobs, what more could you want?

Yes, it was quite pricey. £48 to be exact; BUT I did get 10% off, which completely justifies the purchase, right? If you want to get your hands on it, you can find it here. My shoes were stolen from my mother & are Dorothy Perkins, ooh la la. The vintage bag I picked up for £2 from a charity shop in Leicester, mmhmm, you read that right, TWO POUNDS, I’m pretty much in love with it. I thought I'd drop in a cheeky face picture too; of me looking rather tipsy & awful, just in case you wanted to achieve that sort of look ;)

I’m spending today mainly eating roast dinner, and begrudgingly leaving the house to watch England play, meh. Did you all have a lovely weekend? Hope so :)

Summer Sweat(er)

I don't know what kind of crazy person wears a sweater in summer. Oh wait, it's me. I am the kind of crazy person that wears a big, chunky, thick knit sweater in the dead of summer. (WTF is today srsly only the FIRST freaking day of Summer?) It's the sunny yellow hue that makes this jumper feel so right. I wore this out for people watching and pizza eating out in Hollywood with my boyfriend last weekend. I paired my favorite sunny sweater with these high waisted delights and perfectly pointy pumps that I scored at Salvation Army. Ok, I actually purchased this entire outfit at Salvation Army...like, all on the same day. That was a damn good shopping day.

Thrifted sweater, shorts, and shoes. Vintage Scarf. Vintage Earrings from the Ladjevardi Collection.

Mini Boots Haul!

I took a little trip to my local boots a few weekends ago, & picked up a few of my beauty essentials, along with a few newbie’s I hadn’t tried before. I absolutely love Boots, & could literally spend days in there, if I was allowed ha-ha.

Revlon ColorBurst™ Lip Butter - £5.99 (on offer, usually £7.99)
Firstly I picked up one of the infamous Revlon Lip Butter’s, in Tutti Frutti. I really love the packaging & the colour is soooo yummy; love myself a bit of orange! Obviously, being a lip butter, the formula is very sheer, & quite glossy. It applies really well & you can build it up if you want a heavier finish. They’re also quite moisturizing, & not at all drying on the lips. The only downfall for me is that they get used up so quickly, such a weak formula doesn’t stay around for too long; but you can’t have it all can you! I’ll definitely be repurchasing this one & a few more colours too. It’s currently on offer at Boots, so get yourself down there & grab a few!

Collection 2000 Glam Crystals – £2.99
This liquid liner is something I’ve been purchasing since I was 17…over 6 years! (You do the math ;)). I just love it. I tend to use it all along the bottom eye, just below my lashes; & sometimes on the tips of my liquid eyeliner wings. It’s not an everyday product, just for when I’m going out for dinner, drinks or something like that. It adds a lovely touch of sparkle & goes with almost any look!

Optrex Eyedew Dazzling Eye Drops - 10ml - £4.15
Now, I’ve heard a LOT of good things about said eye drops. Can I just say, I am not impressed.
Optrex Eyedew Dazzling Eye Drops will give you super white dazzling eyes and are suitable for all eye colours.”
I’m afraid; they just didn’t work for me at all. Firstly, my GOD did they sting my eyes. I’m not entirely sure why, as my eyes aren’t particularly sensitive to drops usually, but literally, I couldn’t open my eyes without them really stinging. & secondly, needless to say, they did not make my eyes whiter. They made them much redder. I did try using them on a few more occasions & the same thing happened each time. I was pretty bummed; I was looking forward to having dazzling eyes!! I know a few ladies who use them that have blue eyes & they haven’t had a problem, but my greenies couldn't seem to take it...

No7 Stay Perfect Nail Colour 220 Tangy - £7
So, after spending on those three products, I got given a no.7 £5 off voucher…I couldn’t wait, because I’m Megan, & I’m impatient, so I scuttled straight over to their counter to see what I could find. The nail varnish immediately popped out at me! I think the colour is beautiful,(it’s orange, ;)). If you want to see the finish it gives, you can take a look at my post here, where I’m wearing it. It has a really thick consistency; you could probably get away with just 1 coat, which is great value. It’s long lasting & the brush is quite long and spreads across the whole nail, both qualities that I love in nail varnishes. & seeing as I picked it up with my voucher, I only spent £2 on it, BARGAIN!

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer - £4.19
Now, I'm sure you will have spotted this product around every ladies blog, but it is amazing. For such a low price you get a hell of a lot of coverage! It's quite light, but can be built up really easily. I suffer with awfully dark circles under my eyes & this has been an absolute god send - blows some of the high-end brands out of the water!

Collection 2000 Fast Stroke Eyeliner - Black (I can't remember the exact price, but I think it's about £4.99)
I have been using this little bad boy for years now. It's probably not the best liquid eye-liner out there, but it works so well for me & for such a good price, I think I'll be sticking with it for a few more years to come! I think you may be able to spot a little Collection 2000 trend going on in my make-up bag? haha.

So, that's what I picked up on my little haul :) What do you think of the items I bought? Have you tried any of them before?
Also, I was thinking of doing a mixed haul on my YouTube channel, of a few more bits I picked up this weekend. Clothes, more beauty products etc. Let me know if it's something you'd like to see? :)

Floorlength Florals

< I am so sad, I haven't posted a blog in WAY too long. It's because I have turned into a MAJOR work-a-holic...ever since I landed my first fashion gig. (Figures!) Luckily, boyfriend dragged me away from my computer and down to Laguna Beach for sushi and people watching. The bright and sunny day called for a bright and sunny outfit. And so, I turned to my main maxi as of late, paired with a simple striped tank and a white sandal. This vintage maxi skirt is just so damn colorful- I love it. I think it might actually be made from upholstery fabric, which really makes me wish I could have a couch that was made from this print.

Target tank. Vintage skirt. Vintage watch and necklace. Forever 21 cuff.

A Stupidly Late May Favourites!

Right, so I'm totally aware that we are now approaching the middle of June, but bear with me here...

I've decided to delve into the wonderful world that is YouTube. Eek, scared is not the word, & I probably sound/look like a complete numpty, but hey ho, I wanted to give it a shot. & if you don't try, you'll never know, right? :)

So, here they are, my monthly May faves:
Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Cleansing Foam, Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula, Bioderma Crealine H2O, Lollia Hand Cream

If you fancy it, have a little watch of the video, & let me know what you think! Hoping it will be a thumbs up :) If you don't fancy it, I've linked all the products in the caption thingy, so you can have a look at them. If you'd like me to do a full post on these, let me know too!

Cosmo Blog Awards 2012: NEXT Newcomer

So this is a wee bit of a cheeky post today...I’d quite like it if you could do something quite special for me.

Every year, Cosmopolitan & Next get together to host blog awards! There are heaps of different categories; catering for every type of blog etc. & I’d quite like to be considered for the Next Newcomer Blog Award.

I don’t think there are 'prizes' as such for the winners; It’s really just for the recognition that you’re doing a good job :); well it is for me anyway! Although saying that, with the Next Newcomer Award, there is the opportunity for one of the voters to win a £500 shopping spree with Next, exciting, eh?!
If you fancy it, & wouldn't mind spending a bit of free dollar in Next, I would absolutely love if you could click here & vote for me to be nominated :)

If you don’t fancy it, that’s okay too! But there are so many categories, so may be worth having a look to see if there’s someone else you’d like to vote for!

Thanks lovelies xx

Foxes and Nails? Perfect.

One of the many reasons I love blogging, is that you can discover such wonderful new things through your favourite writers.

I have totally stolen this from Zoe, but I am so absolutely in love with these bad boys that there was no wayyy I wasn’t going to share them with you :)

Nail Stickers! Firstly, they’re FOXES; they already have my immediate, undivided attention.  I really need to own everything that has anything to do with a fox, so if you wanna throw some foxy stuff my way, be my guest ;)

Although I love beauty, when it comes to nails I completely freak out. I can just about paint them, but when it comes to nail art, or anything that isn’t just a standard easy polish, I SUCK. So I was a little apprehensive to try nail stickers, but what’s the worst that could go wrong eh?
Luckily for me, nothing! it was so easy :D *insert fist pumps here*.

Step 1: Paint your nails. Make sure that you use a light colour for the nails that will have the stickers on them; they may not show up if the colour is too dark.

Step 2: Cut out your sticker. You don’t have to be too precise; I just cut mine into a small square.

Step 3: Peel the sticker away from the backing. The sticker itself is very fine, so if you have long nails, great; if not perhaps use some tweezers. Be careful that the sticker doesn’t roll up; if it gets stuck together it will be really difficult to unstick it!

Step 4: Place the sticker on your nail. Again, be cautious on application, once it’s stuck down, it’s not going anywhere! Tweezers come in handy here too.

Step 5: Apply a top coat, to keep the sticker firmly in place. I applied an extra coat the day after too.

And voila:

These babies are designed by the lovely Jan Christie; and cost a teeny £1.80. The images are based on their own photo's to avoid any copyright issues; & I believe you can send in your own images to these two ladies to get your own individual sticker! That's pretty cool, non? I’m so impressed with the quality & ease of using this product. Plus, they popped in a few extras for me to try FOC, how lovely is that? Including, a cat, a horse & a pug!

What do you think? Are you a fan of nail stickers? Did I do an okay job? :)

Car Boot Sale | My guilty pleasure..

One bonus of living in the middle of nowhere is that the villagers seem to make the most of all the fields we have; which means....CARBOOT SALES! I absolutely love them & could easily spend all my pennies at them every weekend. If you're not familiar with the term, in short, people basically bring all their old clutter or unwanted items & sell them for next to nothing. I discovered a rather large one in a village near my house, so I thought I would share with you what I picked up :)

Like the majority of my spending habits, I didn't need any of this stuff, as such, but I totally did. Know what I mean? ;)

Wood Mirror - £4: I am actually in love with this mirror, it's so beautiful, it's in amazing quality & i think it look quite expensive too. Not sure where I'm going to put it yet but I sort of had to have it when I spotted it :)
Egyptian Leather Clutch Bag - £2.50: Oh my, is this not the most incredible bag you've ever seen? Probably not, but I think it is! The detail is incredible; I don't know if you can see, but all the prints are raised & it's surrounded by wicker thread all around the edging. It's surprisingly heavy & even though it's a bit battered I love the look!
China Perfume Holder - 50p: I think this is so cute. I don't think i'm going to put perfume in it, because I have no idea where it's been haha. I think it will look beautiful on my dressing table though.
China Polar Bear Trinket box - 50p: I picked this up for my little sister, she went to Germany this week on a school exchange, & to cut a long story short, the airport lost her suitcase. Needless to say she was devastated, so I wanted to buy her something to cheer her up :)
Glass Pot - £1: This was brand new in it's box, with the stickers & all! I love it, & I'm using it for my cotton wool pads :)
China plate - 50p: I love the detail on this. It's sat looking all pretty on my dressing table with all my rings piled nicely on top.

Picking up all of this for under a tenner is pretty good going, don't you think?

The boyf & I are planning on buying our first house together next year; & I'll definitely be dragging him along to a few of these to pick up pieces of furniture & such to fill the house up a little. You can get your hands on some pretty amazing stuff, & it's so ridiculously cheap. I love all things pretty & vintage, so walking in to a field full of someone's old stuff makes for one happy Megs.

Do you love a good Car Boot? Or do you think you'll be making a trip to one now?

Trend Watch Fall 2012: Negative Space

Negative space is a compositional tool used in both two- and three-dimensional artwork. A simple way to describe negative space is, "what is not present." Of course, negative space does not actually imply any "negative" connotation. In fact, when used properly this element is just as important as what is actually present in the piece. Instances of negative space were popping up all over the Fall 2012 runways, and in many different styles, shapes, and forms. DVF utilized negative space to reference her film noir influence, while Peter Dundas at Pucci used negative space to create daring cutouts, proving that what is not present, really can be more important than what actually is ;) Images via Style.com.
