HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Happy Halloween! This past weekend I went out dressed as a Flapper "Gatsby Girl", inspired by all the behind the scenes pics I've been lurking of the latest GG installment. I got the dress at a thrift shop; it WAS a floor length white gown until I chopped it into a fringed mini dress and used RIT to dye it green. I used some fabric scraps to fashion a head piece, threw on a fur stole, some fabulous diamonds, ankle strap heels, and I was transformed. I freaking love Halloween. PS- I also made my sister's Cleopatra costume from some gold stretch fabric (just a couple of simple stitches and strategically placed safety pins) and as you can see she looked BANANAS.

Vintage Lace

My sister and I were sitting atop a pile sale, and she pulled out this dress and notioned to me as if to say, "Yay? Nay?" The answer of course being an enthusiastic YAY, I then proceeded to have a mild freak-out. "Are you kidding me right now?! Do you SEE this dress?!" I asked her. "Look at this dress, vintage lace. they just don't make lace like this anymore...well not for $4 anyways." But I mean SERIOUSLY, I die. The colors are AMAZING, the two-toned purples have an iridescent sheen to them. Which is why I thought it would be perfectly paired with a sea-foamy green, sequined collar necklace. The lace is really very beautiful, I love the sheer detailing on the sleeves. Of course, it reminded me of everyone's fave collection from Dolce and Gabbana, so it was obvious that I had to bust out my crown of flowers again. My new booties gave this ensemble the perfect amount of hard juxtaposition that I needed.

Indian Summer

While the East Coast is gearing up for Sandy, SoCal has yet to move on from 85 degree temps; and now we've even added the Santa Ana winds to the mix. Indian Summer, indeed. Which would explain while I'm still running around town in short shorts and sunnies. I wore this festive little ensemble out for dinner in Belmont Shore with my main man. He told me to pick a place; any place at all. Sushi, seafood, Thai, Greek, Indian, Persian, and Italian restaurants line the street...and all I wanted was Lucille's BBQ. Sometimes you just need to grub out on some southern sweet tea, baby back ribs, and braised greens, ya feel me? My look is vintage head-to-toe...as usual. I totally stole this pen necklace from my girl Jazzy...with zero intentions of ever giving it back.

Why Do You Wear Makeup? | TAG

So, I haven't done a TAG before. Mainly because, I haven't found one that I have a personal want for writing about. I really enjoy reading others, but it's not been something I've had an urge to do! That was until Kayleigh (the ever so beautiful Kayleigh) of Couture Girl posted this one - Why do you wear makeup? I think it's such an interesting subject and couldn't wait to give my take on it :)

1. When did you begin to love makeup?
Since I can remember I’ve had terribly dark circles under my eyes, so as soon as I heard the word makeup I wanted to try and masque them. I suppose I was around 12 when I started wearing concealer, but that was the only thing I owned! My real love and appreciation for makeup began when I was about 14, going into year 9 at secondary school. I saw other girls coming in to school with heavy makeup, I didn’t want to look like them, but it did intrigue me as to how makeup could change or enhance your appearance. I started experimenting with foundations, blushers and eye shadow and I think I’ve been hooked since then! I’ve always preferred a more natural look, I’ve never been one for slathering layers of make-up on and definitely believe less is more :)

2. How do you feel without makeup?
Sometimes, I feel like I could leave the house and conquer the world without makeup on. If I’ve had a good night’s sleep and it’s only to the local shop to pick up some bread, that is. Not exactly conquering the world is it?
Other times, I feel positively horrific and wouldn’t leave the house without at least popping on some concealer and mascara. I suppose that does show insecurities, but I can’t help but feel more confident with my make-up on. I don’t wear a hideous amount, but without it I do feel self conscious and a bit, well ugly.

3. What do you like about makeup?
Gah, where do I start! As I mentioned above, I love the fact that makeup can enhance your natural features and boost your confidence. I love the variety of products out there, which enable you to achieve pretty much any look you could dream of. I also love that it can bring ladies like you and I together. Without makeup, I wouldn't have such a passion to write about all the products that I love and share it with you guys.

4. Three 'Holy Grail' Items:
Only 3? You cheeky monkey’s ;)

1. Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Foundation – This has been my savior over the past year. As many of you know, I struggle with my skin and controlling breakouts. This product has been amazing for helping to cover up blemishes and keep my skin healthy without clogging up my pores. It’s finish and staying power is like none I’ve ever tried before; I wouldn't be without it!

2. Collection 2000 – Lasting Perfection Concealer – This bad boy is incredible. It’s such good value for money and the coverage is insane. CYA dark circles ;)

3. Collection 2000 Liquid Eye Liner – Again, so affordable and you’ll rarely see me without my bat-wing eye liner, I feel naked without it!

I hope you lovely lot enjoyed reading my ramblings :) and I tag every single one of you to take part!! Make sure you let me know if you write your own, by commenting below or dropping me a little tweet with the link :D

Thierry Mugler's Womanity | Perfume Review

Discovering new perfumes is something that really excites me. Last weekend, my beautiful friend Polly came over and she literally smelt like heaven. I think before I even said hello I asked her what she had on, and when the Perfume's Club contacted me and asked me if I wanted to try one of their perfumes I couldn’t quite believe my luck! Obviously, I was a complete copy cat and asked for the same as my friend, Thierry Mugler’s – Womanity.
Thierry Mugler Womanity Perfume c/o Perfume's Club

Not only was delivery super speedy, but how amazing is the packaging? Obviously Thierry Mugler is massively famous for his Angel perfume and I’d say that’s a pretty hard act to follow, it’s a perfume you either love or hate but everyone knows it’s name. Personally, I really quite dislike Angel, but hey ho that’s not what I’m here to rave about! This perfume is known for it’s unique sweet, salty, woody scent and is literally a feast for your noses ladies. The notes, (completely stolen off the website) are Mara des Bois strawberry for fruitiness, white fig for sweetness, and caviar for a savory marine scent. Now, reviewing perfumes is a tricky business. Everyone is completely different in what they love and hate about a scent. And to be honest, if I read up on the ingredients before I’d smelt it on my friends neck, it’s not something I would’ve picked out but I LOVE IT. I have had SO many comments about how good I smell since I’ve been wearing it; and it’s one of those perfumes that is sexy enough for evening wear, but not too overpowering to wear during the day. And apparently the bottle is refillable, which means you could keep any sort of fragrance in it when it runs out! Which is fab when the bottle is so pretty. The staying power is always a big factor in purchasing perfume and this one is fantastic; I can still smell it on my skin after a 12 hour day which is impressive in my eyes.

I’m also quite excited to discover the Perfume’s Club. They offer hundreds of discounted perfumes which is something that makes me very happy indeed. Perfume is just so expensive now, so it’s good to find somewhere that offers it for that little bit less. I got mine in the 50ml size, which is £42.24 compared to £50 in boots! (And still cheaper when you include for delivery) I know it’s not much but I think it makes the difference if you can get your favourite scent for a few pounds less; and if you spend over £130 delivery is free which let’s face it, isn’t difficult to do when it comes to your favourite perfume!

I think this little bottle of joy is going to be a staple on my dressing table – well that’s a lie, I actually keep my perfume in my over-sized birdcage, but it doesn’t have the same sort of ring to it does it? Haha.

Have you tried this scent? Do you love it as much as I do?

So Sari

I found this gorgeous, hand-beaded dress at my fave vintage store over the weekend and was immediately reminded of the Marchesa Spring show. I also seized the opportunity to half-assedly attempt a DOP (Dress Over Pants) by throwing it on over my leather leggings. I am still VERY into flats; they feel so effortless and non-chalant. I wore this over to my friend Jasmine' house for a night of sitting out by the fire, blasting Die Antwoord, and drinking Jameson, Blue Moon, Strawberry champagne, and 2-Buck-Chuck and then her Mom's fancy wine. A great night, indeed.

Vintage dress. Urban outfitters leather leggings. Vintage loafers. F21 bracelet. Vintage sea shell earrings.

My Daily Skincare Routine | Video

Good Afternoon my loverlies! Hope you all had a fab weekend and that you're not suffering from the Monday Blues :) Today actually feels like it's mid week, I'm surprisingly chirpy!
Anyway...I've filmed another video for y'all. It's my Daily Skincare Routine, which I've recently changed up. I've said a sad goodbye to Clinique and a warm hello to a new brand. If you want have a little nose, go have a watch. I've listed all the products in the down-bar of the video, if you want to read up more about them :)

I also received some rather disturbing comments on my channel yesterday; I was really shocked, being the first derogatory comment on any of my videos - but I suppose it was always going to come, nonetheless I did feel a little bit ill at what they said. (if you want to see the comment, I did post one of the screen shots on twitter). I think using the big wide web to discuss your passions can be a bit of a dangerous ball game, you definitely have to be thick skinned and let the negativity roll off you. I thought I would always be able to do that, but it did leave me a bit worried. Anyhow, on-wards and upwards and their vile comments have been reported and the user blocked from my account. I'll have none of that nastiness thank you very much :)
Have a lovely week you lot, and please do let me know if there's any other videos you'd like to see?

Poker Face.

Lipstick: NARS Red Sqaure
Much to my excitement, I recently won the fantabulous Sugarhill Boutique giveaway over on Leanne Marie's blog. I always enter giveaways (that I sincerely want to win) and I'm sure they're fixed, because I never win and I totally should win. You know what I'm sayin'? But I have been proven wrong, because I totally won! :D woooohoooo!

I was able to pick an item of my choice from the website which was extremely tricky as I wanted everything. But I decided, instead of going for something simple or similarish to what I already have that I would go a bit crazy. (Yes I know it's not crazy, but it sort of is, right?). Cards on a dress? I kinda love it.

I just absolutely love this dress. The floaty material feels so expensive and although it's sheer, it has a lovely little underlining in it, so no need to bother with a slip underneath, or flashing boobage; which makes it surprisingly warm and cosy :). This is the only pussybow tied item I own, and I think on my frame it's quite flattering. You know, no hips or boobs etc. ;) and I love the button detail to the front. It's just a complete winner in my eyes.
It will also become apparent over these winter months, that yup, the only things that live on my feet are my Hudson boots. I just love them, okay? So forgive me for the lack of variety in the shoe department!

A big thank you to the lovely Leanne for such a fabulous giveaway, and to SB for such a wonderful dress :D

This dress = Happy Megs x

Dado Fall Fashion Show 2012

The highly fashionable crowd gathered at Max at High Falls last night for the Dado Fall 2012 Fashion Show.  While I found myself drooling over every single look that went down the runway, I was also coveting many of the looks in the audience as well.  Bracelets were stacked, designer bags were flashing, Loubs were kicking, and hair and makeup was on point.  DJ FLEX had the beats bumping, the models were styled beautifully, and just when I thought I had seen it all, I got to experience Svet, the hip hop violinist, at intermission.  It was a beautiful night for a wonderful cause.  When all was said and done, the evening had raised more that $40,000 for the Wilmot Cancer Center and Rochester proved just how fashion-forward she can be.  Take that NYC - we clean up pretty good too!  ;)

Can't wait to see all the photos from the event, my iphone shots just don't do it justice.

Great time.  Great night.  Great cause.

Glad to be there!

Happy Hump Day!
