Look at Granny's Shell Now

I’m baaaaaaaaaaack. So, this beaded halter top is actually what is known as a “shell” and was part of a set which included a long black maxi skirt and a cardigan with pearl buttons. It’s first owner was presumably someone of the “Aunt Gertrude” variety who needed something “fancy” (read: sparkly) to wear to her nieces wedding or her BFF’s 50th Anniversary bash. Similarly, do you remember those chunky heeled boots I wore back here? These are hiking boots, complete with gel soles and arch support and everything…some real hardcore “nature lady” shit. Oh and this textured sweater I wore right over here. This guy is the epitome of old lady dressing…I just know some old broad wore this sunny yellow sweater to Easter Sunday service…and you KNOW she had on some Easter Egg earrings. (#VintageMervyns #HillardAndHanson) My point being, that it is CRUCIAL to keep a veryyyyyy open mind while getting your thrift on. You must completely expand your horizons to the fact that anything and everything on those racks offers some sort of style possibility, you just have to be creative enough to imagine it existing in a completely new context. It’s an inanimate object, so it has no preconceived notions about who or what it is and so neither should you. Forget where the item has been, think about where YOU are gonna take it. Just look at Granny’s shell now…who woulda thought?

Vintage sweater. Vintage shell. Vintage cutoffs. Vintage beanie. Charlotte Russe booties.

Until next time,

Chelsea
