Middle Class Sass

I’m feeling some American Beauty vibes here, with a little dash of Lolita. Must be the combination of my vintage Cheer sweater and rose colored, heart shaped sunnies. So, not that my cinematic opinion matters, but American Beauty is one of my favorite films...like ever, ever. (If you have not seen it stop what you’re doing right now and get thee to Blockbuster or wherever people get movies these days.) Some heavy hitting themes in this film...which is what all great films have in common, isn’t it? According to some Professor named Anker, “American Beauty focuses on the Burnham family, who are unaware that they are ‘materialists philosophically, and devout consumers ethically’ who expect the ‘rudiments of American beauty’ to give them happiness.” Anker argues that, “they are helpless in the face of the prettified economic and sexual stereotypes...that they and their culture have designated for their salvation.’” Heavy shit, man As a bona-fide middle class American myself, that can make you feel down in the dumps, can’t it? Without spoiling the ending and all, the movie actually ends on a positive note, reminding us of the revel in the beauty that exists in the simple act of, well...existing. I will leave you with a quote from Mr. Burnham...as played by the brilliant genius that is, Kevin Spacey: “It's hard to stay mad, when there's so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing it all at once, and it's too much, my heart fills up like a balloon that's about to burst... And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life.” Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Vintage sweater, top, and Skirt. Goodwill sunglasses. Jessica Simpson pumps.

Until next time,

Brittany

PS- NEVER underestimate the power of a red lace bra as an accessory.
